Types and design concepts of highway guardrails
Highway guardrails, as important protective devices, are primarily responsible for protecting pedestrians and vehicles from accidental injuries. There are many types, including but not limited to the following four categories:
1. Corrugated beam steel guardrail: This is the most commonly used type of guardrail on highways. The corrugated design of the steel baffle gives it strong resistance to impact and the ability to prevent re impact.
2. Square tube crossbeam guardrail: This guardrail adopts square tube crossbeams, which have excellent support and stability, and can effectively resist vehicle impacts.
3. Flexible guardrail: This type of guardrail is made of soft materials (such as plastic or rubber) that can absorb energy during vehicle impact, thereby reducing harm to occupants and pedestrians inside the vehicle.
4. Concrete guardrail: This type of guardrail is made of concrete as raw material, which has super strong compressive strength and stability, and can effectively prevent vehicle collisions.
When designing highway guardrails, multiple factors need to be considered comprehensively, such as geographical environment, protective effect, and visual aesthetics. The initial collision condition of the guardrail depends on the driving speed, while the level of roadside danger determines the selection of the guardrail board grade. Guardrail panels must have sufficient strength and collision resistance, such as the median barrier, which helps prevent secondary collision accidents due to its strong collision resistance. Therefore, scientifically and reasonably designing and installing waveform guardrails is crucial for maintaining the safety of public life and property.
